Adult Study: Who Is My Neighbor?
Every Sunday, from 06/25/2017 to 08/20/2017, 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM
“Who Is My Neighbor?”
10:15 a.m. weekly in the Chapel
Christ calls us to love all of our neighbors, but daily reality paints another picture. We have lessons to learn in welcoming, loving, and seeking justice for all of our neighbors. Each week of this series will challenge participants to expand our understandings of “neighbor” and the ways we might care for one another. The series will include focus on: immigration and the sanctuary movement, Hope’s Home ministries, gerrymandering, “outcasts” welcomed by Jesus, race relations, interfaith connections, children and teens experiencing homelessness and poverty, people who identify as LGBTQ+, law enforcement, and people living with mental health concerns.

Neighbors in Dane County Jail
Facilitated by Jail Chaplain, Christa Fisher
What do we know about the jail that is part of our downtown neighborhood? What do we need to know about neighbors who are confined there? How might we offer care for those neighbors and their families?
Sunday, July 30
Neighbors in Law Enforcement
Facilitated by Madison Police Officer and First Church Member, Justin Nelsen
Several recent headlines have suggested an adversarial relationship between the police and the citizens they are sworn to protect. Come to hear the perspectives of a local officer who, motivated by his faith (and his degree in Social Justice and Ethics from Iliff School of Theology) considers himself an officer of the peace and hopes to be received as a good neighbor.
Sunday, August 6
Kat Trio Concert
In the Sanctuary
This classical ensemble, with members Victoria Gorbich (violin), Vladislav Gorbich (clarinet) and Joseph Ross (piano), will perform a “mini-concert” during the Christian Formation Hour. These talented musicians are back with us to share their inspired arrangements of classical pieces, hymns and American popular standards. This concert will take the place of adult classes this week. Take some time to be moved and inspired by beautiful music.
