Leaping Forward

Now We Begin
There is great hope for the future of our church. I have had conversations with a wide variety of our members and friends through the ‘Meet & Greets’ and other gatherings. There is great hope with many great ideas and visions. As we move through our stewardship time, I want to share in greater detail what is behind our “Leaping Forward" appeal and the strategic vision and budget that will emerge as a result of our financial commitments. I hope you find these helpful and inspiring for our future ministry together. I will write three blogs per week through Commitment Sunday...and perhaps beyond.

Leaping Forward in Education | Tuesday's Turn

Posted by Rev. Dr. Mark A. Fowler on

Although the vast majority of folks find their way into the church through the worship services, they report Christian Education as essential to their reason for coming to First United Methodist Church. It is the core of the church’s capacity to “open the word” and connect to God and one another. Our Christian Education program for children has been an important part of our church over the years, but recently has dwindled to a strong and committed core of teachers and students. They hope and pray for renewal and growth in this important area of the church!

Having invested many years in the education of seminary students, I can testify to the importance of a robust, dedicated and visionary approach to Christian Education from the earliest years and continuing as life-long learning. Renewing our capacity to reach and engage families in vital opportunities for education has been a priority in our planning for the future. Education for children and families along with expanding the range of adult education opportunities is at the core of the vision.

Those who brought this church to this point have invested time and treasure to provide a building erected on four pillars: worship, education, eating together and a center for outreaching mission. Establishing a vital pattern of uplifting worship, nourishing meals and conversation and an essential teaching and learning will build and nurture our lives and community.

A new worship space dedicated to children, an expanded capacity for eating together throughout Sunday morning, a dynamic approach to Sunday School and online education throughout the week as well as a weekday offering of educational opportunities and forums are in the plans.

This is an essential investment for the renewal and growth of the church. To Leap Forward in education let us leap forward in our giving.
